Sister Brendan Appalachian Gift Drive

The Sister Brendan Appalachia Gift Drive, sponsored by Sacred Heart Academy, and supported by Sacred Heart Schools and the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, is celebrating over 29 years of service to the families of Mingo County, West Virginia. In 1995, Sr. Mary Brendan Conlon and Sr. Janet Marie Peterworth saw the immense need in the rural coal-towns of West Virginia. They began neighboring agencies to combat the dire, immediate emergencies people were facing and the need for systemic solutions to the severe poverty known in the region. Since then, the Sacred Heart Schools community has been assisting Christian Help of Mingo County and ABLE Families to provide Christmas gifts for the children and a Christmas meal for their families.

Our community celebrates and honors the life work of Sister Mary Brendan Conlon, OSU (1927-2021) through our commitment to the Sr. Brendan Appalachian Gift Drive.

Christian Help will hold their annual Santa Shop this year, providing 300+ area families in Mingo County the opportunity to select gifts for their children in a no-cost shopping experience. The organization will also be providing families with a Christmas dinner basket. Your generous gift will provide Christian Help the monetary support to purchase the food for the baskets and additional gifts for the Santa Shop.
