SHS COVID-19 Procedures

Staff and students (JK-12) who test positive for Covid-19 will follow the below quarantine guidelines:
  • Five-day quarantine (required): A Covid-19 positive individual may return to campus after five days in quarantine from when their symptoms first began if their symptoms have fully resolved by the fifth day of their quarantine. The day their symptoms began is considered day zero. If the Covid-19 positive person is asymptomatic, the day of the positive test is considered day zero. They will be required to wear a mask around others on campus for the first five days back from their quarantine.
  • 10-day quarantine: If a Covid-19 positive person’s symptoms continue through their fifth day of the quarantine, they will be required to stay in quarantine for 10 days, even if their symptoms resolve earlier than the 10th day. They will be required to wear a mask around others on campus for the first five days back from their quarantine.

Revised March 10, 2022

On March 4, the KDPH released new guidance for K-12 School Operations for in-person learning.
Effective March 10, the updated guidance for contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine protocols will be followed.

We will continue the mask-optional policy for all JK-12 students, faculty, and staff. Pertinent changes to the KDPH policy for K-12 schools are:

  • Contact tracing following school exposures to Covid-19 is not expected unless there is an outbreak.
  • Quarantine is not routinely recommended following exposures to Covid-19 that occur in school settings.
  • Per the CDC, masks are no longer mandated on school buses. Therefore, the mask-optional policy now extends to school bus transportation starting today.

According to the State of Kentucky:
  • Fully vaccinated students ages 5-17 are those who have received two vaccines and are 14 or more days from their last dose.
  • Persons 18+ who are fully vaccinated are those who have completed their recommended Covid-19 vaccinations.
  • Persons (who had a) documented Covid-19 illness in the 3 months prior to their exposure (documented through a PCR test}
Covid-19 Guidelines specific to Sacred Heart Preschool

  • At the present time, masks are not required.
  • Families must keep children home from school when they exhibit any flu-like or Covid-19 symptoms.
  • Families must report positive Covid-19 cases to schools and follow all isolation guidelines.
  • Faculty should stay home if they exhibit any flu-like or Covid-19 symptoms.
  • Faculty must report positive Covid-19 cases and follow all isolation guidelines.
  • Anyone with a positive Covid-19 test should self-isolate for at least 5 days* even if vaccinated.
  • To calculate the 5-day isolation period*, day 1 is the day after symptoms start or after the day of test.
  • Isolation can end after day 5* if symptoms are fully resolved. The individual should wear a well-fitting mask for
    5 additional days.
  • Students and staff who are exposed to a positive case do not need to quarantine if they are symptom-free.
  • It is recommended that a person who has knowingly been exposed to Covid-19 wear a mask for five days
    following exposure.
  • Each school will monitor its weekly data to determine any changes to the mitigation protocols.
  • Schools will monitor positivity rates and make adjustments to mitigation strategies, such as targeted contact
tracing, quarantining, and/or required masking, if needed.
  • Schools are required to report positive cases to the Louisville Metro Health Department using the Red Cap
    system.
  • Childcare directors are required to report positive cases to the Louisville Metro Health Department and the
    DRCC.
*The first day of symptoms or the date of a positive test, if asymptomatic, is day zero; the isolation period ends after day 5 (i.e. on day 6)
