Mark your calendars! In June and July 2017, Sacred Heart Schools is offering its most expansive camps program yet! From volleyball to violin lessons and from STEM to Storybook Dance, we have something for everyone! View a summary of the summer camp options below, listed by topic. At the bottom of each listing you will find a link to online camp registration pages.

Please note that camps provided by Sacred Heart School for the Arts will have a separate online registration form from those offered by Sacred Heart Academy.

Ceramics Camp

Ceramics Camp
June 19-23

Ages: Girls entering 6-8th grade

This week of ceramics fun will be focused around the potter’s wheel. Campers will learn how to prepare clay through wedging (think of kneading bread dough), center the clay (with a little help from physics) and create many ceramics forms on the potter’s wheel. We will create cups, bowls and more! Campers will get to glaze and fire their potter’s wheel creations. (Limit of 12 campers)

Creative Writing Camp

Creative Writing
June 5-16 (Mon-Fri)

Poetry, short stories, plays and screenplays...we will cover it all! This two week camp will use improvisational play, games, art and exploration of the outdoors and inner space to generate writing in unique and inspiring ways. Camp will culminate with the creation of an online journal and a staged reading and video presentation in the beautiful Ursuline Arts Center.

Each participant, unless instructed otherwise, will need to bring a lunch and snacks, clearly labeled with student’s name. If needed, lunches will be refrigerated.

Dance Camps

Advanced Choreography
June 26 - July 21 (Mon-Fri, closed on July 4)
10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Ages: Girls and boys ages 14 – 18
Cost: $832 for 4 weeks/$229.00 for 1 week

Classes include ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, men’s technique, partnering and other dance genres, along with an opportunity to create, learn and perform student choreography. Participation in the Advanced Dance Intensive (June 5 – June 23) in combination with this intensive will result in the most progress for the serious student. Students must have previous dance experience in Advanced levels of classical ballet and Intermediate levels of modern and/or jazz dance. A concluding performance will be held July 21, 2017 our Ursuline Arts Center.

Advanced Dance Intensive
June 5 – June 23 (Mon-Fri)
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 pm
Ages: Girls and boys ages 14 – 18
Cost: $600 for 3 weeks/ $220.00 for 1 week

All-inclusive dance camp designed to improve the young dancer’s technique in Ballet, Pointe, Variations, Partnering, Jazz, Modern and other dance genres. Participation in the Advanced Dance Intensive in combination with the Advanced Dance & Choreography Intensive, (June 26 - July 21) will result in the most progress for the serious student. Students must have previous dance experience in Advanced levels of classical ballet and Intermediate levels of modern and/or jazz dance.

Intermediate Dance Intensive
July 10 – 21 (Mon-Fri)
1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Ages: Girls and boy ages 10–13
Cost: $300 for 1 week/ $400 for 2 weeks

Two weeks of dance each session with instruction in ballet, variations, jazz and tap concluding with a final class demonstration in the studio. Previous dance experience (of any kind) strongly recommended, but not required.

Storybook Dance
Ages 4-6

A week filled with creative dance! Invent and act out characters and scenes through dance, music and drama using famous stories from children’s classics. The children will also work on art projects for props and learn how to make simple costume accessories for the show! This camp fuses ballet, jazz and tap with children’s choreography, culminating with a performance at the end of the camp. No dance experience necessary. Don’t have tap shoes? We do!

Drama/Musical Theatre Camps

Audition Boot Camp
June 12-16
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Ages: Girls and boys entering grades 7-11
Cost: $200

Auditioning for a show next season? Considering a career on stage? Performers of all skill levels will perfect major audition techniques, establish proper stage presence and learn the secrets to ‘wowwing’ an audience! Participants will learn and rehearse monologues and songs to showcase their talent, culminating with a performance at the conclusion of camp.

Broadway 360 (formerly Gleetastic)
July 10-21(2 weeks, Mon-Fri)

Ages: Girls and boys entering grades 3-9

Come learn performance techniques for acting, singing and dancing as well as the basics of stage and set design. It’s 360 degrees of Broadway! Students will put together an original show using Broadway favorites and popular tunes, to be performed on the final day of this two week camp. Step into the spotlight!

Drama 4 Change (now includes scenery and costume design!)

Ages: Girls and boy entering grades 5-8
Cost: $474.00

Students write and perform an original multi-media performance piece about subjects, themes and issues that matter most to them. Through improvisation, group and individual writing, movement, music and visual art, students will work together to craft an unforgettable performance exploring the issues and events of their world. During the afternoon portion of the camp, students will focus on scenery and costume design and other backstage elements of a production.

Leadership Camp (For Middle School Student Gov't Groups)

Ages: Boys and girls entering grades 6-8 who are members of their school's’ student government group
Cost: $50 per school group

Sacred Heart Academy invites members of your school's student leadership team/student government to attend this program. During this valuable two-day

program, students will focus on successful leadership skills, such as organizing club events, leading meetings and creating accountability for all members. Additionally, students will hear from various guest speakers who are influential leaders within our Louisville community. If you are a member of your school’s student government, contact your faculty sponsor about attending!

"Let's Explore Art" Youth Art Camp

Let’s Explore Art!

Ages: Girls and boys ages 7-11
Cost: $250

We invite your your artist to join the fun as we explore the many types of visual arts along with famous works of the Modern Masters. Learn to paint, sculpt and create in the styles of their art. Students will work on drawing, painting, mixed media, clay, fabric, yarn and a whole lot more!

Music (Private Lessons)

Private lessons are offered for all ages and skill levels during the summer in banjo, guitar, mandolin, dulcimer, violin, voice, harp, piano, cello, brass and woodwinds. Sessions are scheduled with instructor throughout June and July. Lessons are available in 15, 30, 45 and 60 minute blocks. Prices vary.

Photography Camp (FULL)

Photography Camp
June 19-23

Ages: Girls entering grades 6-8
Cost: $100

SHA Art Faculty leads a week long session on the fun world of photography! Students will learn the basics of film and digital photography, develop photos in a dark room, learn about digital photo editing and more. Students will apply what they learn by taking their talents to the Louisville Zoo for a photo shoot safari!

Day 1: Build Your Own Camera: Students will learn the science behind how a camera works and will make their very own pinhole cameras out of household items.

Day 2: Old School Photography: Do you love old cameras and photographs? Learn how to use a 35mm camera, develop film, and use a darkroom. Cameras and supplies provided.

Day 3: Digital Photography Editing: Ready to take your photography to the next level? We will teach you how to get the most out of your digital camera and how to edit images using free apps.

Days 4-5: Photo Shoot Safari: Campers will take their photography talents to the Louisville Zoo!

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Camp

STEM CAMP
June 5-9
Ages: Girls entering grades 6-8
Cost: $85 for morning or afternoon sessions, $170 for both

Led by SHA’s STEM Coordinators and talented high school students, campers can attend morning sessions, afternoon sessions or both, depending on their interests. Students will learn to collaborate, to communicate, and to be creative, strengthening critical thinking skills through a weeklong project-based curriculum. At the end of the week, students will present their final projects to their peers and receive a SHA STEM Camp certificate and t-shirt. Full-day campers will bring lunch Monday-Thursday. Pizza will be provided on Friday.
