STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math)

“The basis of a STEM program is to apply science, technology, engineering and math through a project-based, hands on curriculum that emphasizes problem solving in a real world context. Sacred Heart Academy’s philosophy of teaching and learning is to center on what students can do with knowledge and not how much knowledge they can amass. We emphasize meaning-making and transfer of knowledge through critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, innovation, collaboration and communication: the 21st Century Skills.”
– SHA Principal Mary Lee McCoy

SHA offers a wide variety of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math courses with a concentration in Computer Science. SHA has partnered with Project Lead The Way, the nation’s leading provider of STEM programs, to deliver this computer science concentration. This program engages students in computational thinking through activity-, project-, problem-based learning and gets them excited about the possibilities in careers that use computing. Students work together to design solutions and transform themselves into builders of technology. Two of the courses are approved Advanced Placement (AP) courses. AP courses and exams provide an opportunity for advanced placement and/or college credit. This sequenced program of courses prepares students to make the next world-changing breakthroughs using computer science.
