Wednesday, September 26, 2018 was a momentous day for our IB Diploma seniors in which they completed a major milestone toward their diplomas. In addition to taking IB classes in six subject areas, diploma students also complete 150 hours of Creativity, Activity and Service, meet the requirements of the Theory of Knowledge class and write an Extended Essay.
The 4,000-word Extended Essay engages students in independent research through an in-depth study of a question relating to one of the IB subjects they are studying. It is intended to promote high-level research and writing skills, intellectual discovery and creativity. Students work under the guidance of a mentor throughout the research and writing process. The diploma students began work on this essay in January of this year, and over the course of nine months conducted their research and worked to write and revise their papers, with the guidance of their supervising teacher. Each of them submitted their complete Extended Essay on Wednesday which is a huge accomplishment!
