Students of all levels of experience feel like they're center stage at Sacred Heart School for the Arts. Registration is now open for after-school classes throughout the fall semester, which begins August 17. SHSA welcomes students of all ages from Louisville and surrounding communities. At Sacred Heart School for the Arts, artists age three to adult hone their talents in a mix of drama, dance, music and visual art classes, all under one roof. Every student has the opportunity to showcase his or her hard work and creativity through community art exhibits, recitals and theatre productions. Aspiring young artists flourish, thanks to the school's state of the art facilities and nurturing and professionally trained instructors.
The Drama Department offers Fairy and Folk Tale Theatre for preschool children and Drama for beginners (ages 4-6), beginning drama (grades 1-2), intermediate (grades 3-5) and youth (grades 6-8). Students age 12 and up are invited to participate in a free Technical Theatre Apprenticeship. Apprentices will receive hands-on instruction and mentorship and have the opportunity to work on the design and set construction for a variety of Sacred Heart School for the Arts productions. Students age 12 and up will also enjoy Costume Design, a class for students interested in sewing and design. Participants will help design costumes for the Sacred Heart School for the Arts productions.
Dance classes include creative movement, pre-ballet, beginning to advanced ballet, pointe, jazz, modern dance and tap. We also offer "Bollywood Dance," with classes for children age 5 to adult. The dance is a fusion of traditional and classical Indian dance with the influence of jazz, hip hop and modern dance. Actors and actresses age 12 and up who enjoy musical theatre will benefit from "Dance for Musical Theatre."
Professional and credentialed music faculty offer private music instruction in banjo, brass, cello, clarinet, dulcimer, guitar, harp, music composition, Suzuki and traditional piano and Suzuki and traditional violin and viola for ages 3 to adult. Sacred Heart School for the Arts also offers private vocal training for ages 12 to adult and keyboarding for singers. Young woodwind, brass and percussion students will enjoy taking part in the Sacred Heart School for the Arts band class.
Visual Art classes are offered for preschool, elementary and middle school age students. Students will explore a variety of media and will participate in art exhibits open to the public. Semi-private instruction is offered for adults.
