Sacred Heart Academy has announced a partnership with Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a national STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) curriculum organization that offers training and resources to educators around the world. Teachers will receive special intensive training starting in the summer of 2016 to integrate Project Lead the Way curriculum into the classroom – with students beginning the curriculum during the 2016-2017 school year.
Project Lead the Way is an internationally accredited curriculum and high school courses are often accepted as college credit.
Sacred Heart Academy will focus its attention first on the technology component, offering a track in computer programming. PLTW also provides tracks in Engineering and Biomedical Science.
SHA Principal Mary Lee McCoy explained, "We have been committed to this type of project-based learning for years, centering on what students can do with knowledge and not simply how much knowledge they can amass. These new opportunities will certainly complement our already rigorous and diverse academic offerings. Our young women will be prepared to be leaders in college and beyond."
