For more than 90 years, Sacred Heart Model School has offered the best in education to our students and their families. That means a supportive environment, outstanding faculty and the latest technology. Unique opportunities inside and outside the classroom help students grow from Learners to Leaders.

Classrooms at SHMS naturally support the four areas of 21stcentury learning- collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity. Our educational spaces are active, student-centered, inquiry-based environments where students are challenged to take academic risks to develop their research, writing and critical-thinking skills.
These flexible, dynamic classrooms of the futurehave everything from mini-trampolines, balance balls, standing desks, and stationary bicycle pedals to innovative collaboration spaces and comfortable reading nooks. Our interactive touch-screen panels, 1:1 iPad program and Chromebooks for students in Levels 3-5 ensures SHMS stays ahead of the curve in the technological advances needed to support this dynamic model.
The faculty is made up of 45 teachers, counselors, and administrators averaging approximately 15 years in the education field.
SHMS students come from 33 zip codes in Louisville, surrounding counties, and southern Indiana.
SHMS is a Catholic school, but all faiths are welcomed. Half of our students identify as non-Catholic and 20% identify themselves as a student of color.
The SHMS athletic program has earned city championships in numerous sports, including swimming, cross country, basketball, volleyball, field hockey, soccer and tennis. On-campus athletic facilities include a gymnasium, tennis courts, a regulation track, two natural grass fields and one synthetic turf field. Our program suits up more than two dozen teams in 13 sports.
The Ursuline Arts Center (UAC) on campus provides students with a modern facility in which to develop their artistic talents. It houses our music classroom as well as a theatre that seats more than 500. UAC features include an orchestra pit, scene/prop shop and costume storage, wheelchair seating and a spacious atrium. SHMS students use the theatre on a regular basis for music events, student talent show, drama, student council meetings and awards day.
SHMS is one of four campus schools that make up Sacred Heart Schools. The presence of Sacred Heart Preschool (ages 1-5), Sacred Heart Academy (all-girls high school) and Sacred Heart School for the Arts (all ages) allows for unique opportunities and shared activities throughout the year.
