Special Announcement from SHS

To My Sacred Heart Family,

Our 2019-2020 school year is rapidly approaching and is another year full of new and exciting initiatives. Serving as the President of Sacred Heart Schools for the last 16 years has been the greatest honor of my professional life, but now is time for a new chapter. I have decided to retire from Sacred Heart Schools effective in the summer of 2020, which will give our Board of Trustees plenty of time to bring in a replacement who can continue the amazing things happening here.

When I stepped on this campus in 2003, the first thing I noticed was the remarkable legacy the school had, starting with the Ursuline Sisters and their mission of educating the young people of Louisville. I knew that by embracing their legacy and putting the success of our community’s young people first, we could make this campus the premier place to educate students to become world-ready leaders.

I’m proud to say we did that.

Along the way we’ve had other remarkable achievements, but all those pale in comparison to the bonds we have made as Sacred Heart Schools and the lasting impressions we have made on our young people. They will forever remember their time on the Ursuline campus.

As I now plan for retirement, I want you to know what an amazing honor it has been for me to be part of Sacred Heart Schools. I’ll always be proud of how many young people we turned from learners into leaders.

All the best,

Dr. Cynthia R. Crabtree

President, Sacred Heart Schools

To the Sacred Heart Schools Community,

As board chair of Sacred Heart Schools, I have witnessed this community achieve tremendous successes and watched us overcome many unique challenges and opportunities head-on.

When you have a large organization, whether it is a Fortune 500 company or a school district like ours, those successes are born from strong leadership. We have been blessed with strong leadership, under the guidance of our President, Dr. Cindy Crabtree. As Dr. Crabtree has demonstrated, strong and capable leaders embrace vision and anticipate and plan for change.

Recently Dr. Crabtree shared with me her intention to retire in the summer of 2020. Since we do not experience this type of change often, we understand this is significant news for our community and we will manage the succession process with focus and care.

Dr. Crabtree has been very thoughtful in her process to make this decision and, with great respect for Sacred Heart Schools, provides us ample time to manage a successful leadership transition. Dr. Crabtree is looking forward to beginning the next chapter in her life which will surely include the pitter-patter of footsteps from her 6 grandchildren and a lot of time traveling with her amazing husband, Kevin. Dr. Crabtree has invested her talents wisely and with great dedication to Sacred Heart Schools and this decision to retire is well deserved.

As we manage this transition, we are in a position of strength, guided by our values and Catholic identity, through Dr. Crabtree’s leadership over the last 16 years. Dr. Crabtree’s contributions include merging five individual schools into one unified campus, numerous new buildings including the new SHMS Gym and Ursuline Arts Center, moving our campus endowment from $2 million to $15 million, leading our school to be a National Blue Ribbon School Recognized, converting our campus to an International Baccalaureate district of schools, and energizing our schools with the highest enrollment EVER going into next year!

As the schools are still in very capable hands for the next year, we will now start a comprehensive search for the next president of Sacred Heart Schools.  In the near term, I will be announcing our search committee members and the selection of a search firm to help us in identifying the most capable candidates.  We all understand the importance of this process, resulting in a new president for our Schools.  We will be prayerful and diligent in our work in collaboration with the board and Ursuline sisters, and we will plan to name the new president sometime early in 2020.

Over the next several months we will update you on the search.  If you have any questions please to not hesitate to reach out to us at SHSSearchCommittee@shslou.org.

Finally, this time next year, or before, we will find ways to thank and celebrate Dr. Crabtree’s accomplishments, dedication and friendship.

All the best,

Timothy G. Rutledge

Chairman, Board of Trustees
