SHS President Search Survey Update September

Dear Sacred Heart Community,

Sacred Heart Schools would like to thank everyone who participated in the recent community survey regarding the search for our next President. The response was incredible and proved once again that Sacred Heart Schools has some of the most passionate and dedicated faculty, staff, parents, and alumni. Thanks to your feedback in the community survey and the focus group interviews conducted last month, our search firm, Carney Sandoe and Associates, is in the process of sourcing a large candidate pool and expects the candidate pool to continue to grow over the next several weeks. Not only are the recruiters pleased with the number of candidates at this point in the process, but they are also particularly excited about the quality of the candidates who have expressed an interest in the position.


The overall feedback indicates that community members have an extremely positive relationship with the schools and our mission. Across the board, our community ranked academic excellence and our Catholic identity as two of the areas they most value at our schools.


Of particular interest to the search committee at this point are the responses to the question, “Which three professional experiences and qualities do you believe are MOST IMPORTANT for the next President?” The top 5 survey responses, in order of importance as determined by the respondents, are as follows:


  • Poise, presence, and outstanding communications skills
  • Significant knowledge of teaching, learning, school operations
  • Leadership/management experience in independent schools, Catholic or non-Catholic
  • Leadership/management experience in Catholic schools
  • Outstanding leadership qualities

When identifying potential candidates, the search committee is also interested in the responses to the question, “Which three characteristics or qualities would be MOST IMPORTANT for the next President to possess?” The top 5 survey responses, in order of importance as determined by the respondents, are as follows:


  • Honest, trustworthy, transparent
  • Energy, enthusiasm, passion for mission
  • Practicing Catholic
  • Engaging, inspiring, motivational
  • Excellent communicator

Your feedback helps provide the search committee with a clear picture of what our community values and is looking for in our next President. Over the next several weeks Carney Sandoe will be evaluating the pool of candidates for recommendation to the search committee, who will further review the candidates and select some for preliminary interviews in order to identify a small number of final candidates for on campus interviews. While there is still a large amount of work to be done, we are off to a great start and community feedback has been a large part of this.


As the candidate pool continues to grow and our search process progresses, you should expect to continue to receive regular updates regarding the process. It is our goal to communicate updates each month, or sooner if there are important announcements. We will also be updating the President Search page under the About section on our website. There you can find information regarding the search, search committee, position description and answers to some frequently asked questions.
